Welcome! I'm Dr. Ellie Simpson, a British Columbia–based marine environmental scientist specializing in water quality, biogeochemistry, and coastal environmental impact assessment. I provide independent scientific consulting and advisory services to governments, Indigenous communities, industry, and environmental organizations.

Home is Mission, BC, where I live with my partner and our dog. Outside of work I love being outdoors, whether that's hiking, camping, skiing, or spending a quiet afternoon in the garden. Those moments outside continue to fuel my love for protecting and understanding the natural environment.

​I'm passionate about protecting marine and coastal environments and helping communities respond to the challenges of climate change. I believe that sound environmental decisions begin with robust science, and I'm motivated by work that helps balance environmental protection with sustainable development. I enjoy helping clients navigate complex environmental challenges with confidence, working collaboratively with clients to find practical, science-based solutions to complex environmental challenges. I believe good science should be accessible, transparent, and directly useful for the people making decisions about our coasts and oceans.

Over the past thirteen years, I've worked across consulting, government, and academic research. I hold a PhD in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University, where my research focused on ocean acidification and carbonate chemistry in the Salish Sea and the vulnerability of shellfish aquaculture. My experience includes environmental impact assessment, marine monitoring, biogeochemistry and water quality, coastal resilience, aquaculture, climate change adaptation, and the analysis and interpretation of environmental data. I've led multidisciplinary projects, supported regulatory decision-making, and delivered technical advice for provincial and federal governments, Indigenous organizations, and private-sector clients.
